Pam and Corrina setting the Backer Rod

Pam and Corrina going to town with the Backer Rod!! :-)

Cabin walls all Backer-Rodded up

Backer-Rod all in place!

Great friend, and fellow “Log Home Nut”, Pam Neighbors along with my wife Corrina went to town this weekend laying in all the Backer Rod for Chinking!!

“The Girls Rocked this weekend!” :-)

Not only is Pam a great friend but she is also the one responsible for turning me on to the “Log Home Builders Association” course back in the mid 90’s and the one that introduced me to my wife Corrina. :-)

Staining the Cabin Exterior

At work putting the 1st coat of stain on our Log Home! :-)

Hired Clyde Owen of “Pacific Log Homes” (Link to his site here on the Blog) to come out and help stain the Cabin… He is worth absolutely every penny!!! … and is one helluva’ great guy to work alongside as well. ;-)

We went with the “Sikkens” “New Wave Log and Siding” stain in the Cedar color. Its a two coat oil based stain. (Link to the Sikkens site also here on the Blog)

Our Goal is to have the entire cabin dried in before Winter.

Anjelika Scotch Brighting the Cabin

Our Daughter Anjelika Using “Scotch Brite” pads to sand off the fuzz left from power washing. :-)

After the Cabin was all washed down and left to dry for a few days it was sanding and buffing time! Power washing left a whole lot of “fuzz” on the logs that needed to be buffed out before staining. Went through an entire  6″, 120 Grit, “Osborm Brush” where I could get the log surfaces and the rest where the brush could’nt reach was left up to good old fashioned elbow grease and “Scotch Brite” pads. Mom, Corrina, helped a TON here too!!

Also used a wood grinding head to grind out all the deep marks left from when the logs were yarded out and loaded on the logging truck.

After the cabin was all sanded and buffed down all the upward facing checks were caulked with “Check-Mate”.
