Chemical Time

Time to bring back the weathered old gray logs to new again!

Spent well over a week (During some nice hot weather of course) bringing back the grayed logs in preparation for staining in September.

rinsing off Jomax Bleach Solution

Rinsing off chemicals… notice the safe standing location I got caught in here… You know the top rung of the ladder that says “Not a Step”

1st Step:  Spray down everything (All Interior & Exterior wood surfaces) with a “Jomax” and Bleach solution to kill any mold and mildew spores, then rinse it all down thoroughly with the power washer to maintain proper PH. Got some pretty nice chemical burns on my face doing this… even with being all suited up and wearing a chemical respirator.

The Wood Renew diference

The Wood Renew difference!

2nd Step: Went through the entire cabin section by section, spraying on “Wood Renew” then scrubbing down the logs with a brush and then rinsing thoroughly with the power washer to take all the gray out of the logs.

3rd Step:Back through the entire cabin, again section by section, spraying on Oxylic Acid and then rinsing thoroughly with the power washer. This brightened the logs right back up!! Got some more nice chemical burns here too! Checked PH levels after final rinse and all was good!

4th Step:Spray down the entire cabin with Borates to prevent any future rot, mold, or infestation. Whole cabin was treated with “Shell Guard RTU” a few years back… but just wanted to make sure all was good.

Cabin on Aug 1st 2007

Well after quite some time away from the Log Home Construction we were back it it with a vengeance!!

Had some previous standing water issues inside our nice five foot deep crawler for awhile there from seasonal rains, so we resolved that by water-proofing the inside of the crawler and then shoveling in 140 yards of dirt on top of that. Dirt was then all plate compacted down. Spread some extra fill dirt around the exterior of the cabin as well and then covered it with Hay in preparation for the up-coming power washing.
