6th course of logs went in quick with a lot of help from friends this weekend. (8/30/03) We had the system down; in this picture Scotty was drilling, Carl started the rebar with a hand held sledge, and I followed up driving the rebar home with the big sledge. Also had help this weekend from Rob and his friend Terri but forgot to take a pic. Thanks Guys for all the help!!

Setting the 4th course of logs with help from Tom Dellinger and his loader 8/21/03. Every log course and then some, were set into place with help from neigbor and adopted Dad, Tom Dellinger. (aka. “Tommy”) I took some time off from guiding to set the courses into place, I’d call Tommy every evening after spending the day drilling and driving rebar and tell him I was ready for the next course. Bright and squirrely the next morning Tommy would show up with his loader, we’d check our “Log Catalog” to see the next logs going up on the cabin, check our logs bow, Tommy would then set the log and I’d drill and pound the rebar in each corner. We’d get a course spiked in place and then Tommy would leave for the day and let me go to town on drilling and pounding the rest of the courses rebar.

Foundation was water-proofed, back filled, lines snapped, mud sill layed down, the first course of logs were drilled and set upon the rebar sticking out of the foundation. Rebar was then pounded over holding the first course securely to the foundation. All with help from friends (pretty much family) and neighbors Tom and Tyler Dellinger and Russ Taylor. August 2003
*Most important to note here: Before logs were even ready to be stacked we catalogued each and every one of them. Made our own log calipers out of two framing squares… Logs were measured both on the large and small ends and in the centers. Coming to level on all four corners on your last layer of logs is VERY important… especially if you have a cut up roof like ours.
